Retail Space Polished Concrete

Complete flooring transformation for a national fashion retailer—polished concrete installed over 10 nights with zero impact to daytime operations.

Retail space polished concrete installation

Project Background

A national fashion retailer needed to renovate the flooring in their flagship location—a high-traffic, multi-level store in a major shopping district. The existing ceramic tile had become dated and no longer aligned with their updated brand aesthetic. More critically, cracked tiles were creating trip hazards and constant maintenance headaches.

The challenge: complete a full flooring replacement during peak retail season without closing the store. Every sales day was critical. The client needed a contractor who could work discreetly—transforming the space while keeping the store fully operational for customers.

The Challenge

  • No daytime closures: Store generates significant daily revenue during peak season
  • Aggressive timeline: Tight window before seasonal merchandise reset
  • Fixed fixtures: Sales floor fixtures couldn't be moved—installation had to work around them
  • Ceramic removal: Existing tile required careful demolition to avoid subfloor damage

Our Solution

We developed a comprehensive after-hours installation plan that would complete the project in a tight window. Our team worked overnight, with all work areas cleared and ready for customers by store opening each morning.

We divided the sales floor into zones, completing one section per night and using temporary barriers and transition strips to maintain safe pedestrian flow during the day. Dust containment systems ensured no debris reached merchandise, and all tools and materials were staged off-site and brought in after closing.

Technical Approach

Phase 1: Ceramic Tile Removal

Low-vibration removal equipment protected the structural slab. Debris was hauled out nightly, leaving no trace by morning.

Phase 2: Concrete Preparation

Diamond grinding removed adhesive residue and exposed aggregate. Shot blasting created a consistent profile across the floor.

Phase 3: Polishing

Progressive grinding from coarse to fine. A densifier was applied between stages for hardness and sheen.

Phase 4: Final Detailing

Joint filling, edge work around fixtures, and final burnishing. Protective treatment applied for stain resistance.

Results

The project finished on schedule, giving the client time for seasonal merchandise setup. The store remained open throughout the project, protecting peak-season sales.
